1. BIOS
BIOS Update:
Find out what your motherboard manufacturer and model is. Either on your box or:
You can find this out using "System Information", just type this in the start menu.
Log down the entries for:
Baseboard Manufacturer
Baseboard Product
BIOS Version/Date
Have a USB formatted in FAT32, this can be done using Rufus (https://rufus.ie/en/)
Find the latest non-beta bios of your motherboard using the information from (2) and place it extracted on your USB.
Please read through the notes of the previous BIOS updates briefly to check whether they may have dropped support for your CPU, this can happen for Ryzen 1st and 2nd gen to give space for later generations.
Restart into BIOS
Reset all settings to defaults (just in case), and restart, then go back into BIOS
Update your BIOS with the file (DO NOT TOUCH POWER, LET IT FINISH)
It will auto-reboot for you
Some tweaks for performance:
Enable XMP/DOCP/EXPO
For AMD, enable PBO
For Ryzen 1st/2nd gen, do a negative 0.1v offset on the core voltage instead
Enable '4G Encoding and Decoding' + 'Resizeable Bar'
Disable iGPU if you have one (unless you use Intel QuickSync)
